Wedding Colour Accents of Red and Yellow – Ask The Wedding Expert Answer

Question from Klaudia:

My dress white with red in it, groom in black with red accents. Guests, bridesmaids, groomsmen and the such in black with yellow accents mixed with very little red. My flowers are red with some yellow in them. Decorations are accented with yellow but some red in them also. does with work? I want me and him to have red and little yellow. Everyone else with more yellow and little red. My favored color is red, his is yellow. How else can we make it work?

Answer from Wedding Expert Angela:

Hi Klaudia, and congratulations on your upcoming wedding.  I think you have planned it very well.  The colours go together beautifully, and the way you are accenting one colour between yourselves, and another colour with the rest of the bridal party is excellent.  You have a great grasp of colour and how to put it together, so, from this point, it is really a matter of personal taste whether you accent one or another colour.

The only suggestion I have is to play around with the colours in your reception decorations.  Some options are:  keep the head table decorations accented like you and your groom, and keep the guest tables accented like your bridal party.  This would keep a bolder focus on you as a couple.  Or, you can do the opposite, and decorate your reception site using all colours equally.  That would give it a whole different feel.  As I said, it’s a matter of personal taste at this point.

Good luck with the rest of your wedding plans.  If you have further questions, feel free to emai again.

My friend is having her wedding very soon and we have a problem on how to choose the colours. Our church is being decorated with wine colours and yellow-brown. We need your help on how to decorate the church by adding more colours to the one that already exist. thank you.

  2. Hi Priscilla,

The yellow-brown you describe sounds pretty neutral to me. So that leaves you with various colours that go with the wine colour. A lovely mossy green or a hunter green would go with the wine colour. Peach goes very nicely with a wine colour. If you wanted to go darker, go into the dark violet and purple tones.

Another choice would be to use shades of the wine colour. Remember that black, white, and brown are neutrals and go with any colour. Enjoy!
